Audi ended the opening day of practice at Fuji Speedway quickest, but only marginally, as FIA World Endurance Championship teams prepare for Sunday's penultimate round of the season.

Benoit Treluyer peddled his No. 1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro to a best lap of 1:28.462 in Friday's second practice session. It held as the quickest time on Friday.

The championship-leading Audi edged out the No. 7 Toyota TS030 Hybrid of Nicolas Lapierre by just 0.004 seconds, thanks to the Frenchman's 1:28.466 time, which was also set in the afternoon.

Audi's sister No. 2 entry of Tom Kristensen was third on the time sheets but more than seven-tenths back with a 1:29.184 lap time.

Quickest of the LMP1 privateers was the Strakka Racing HPD ARX-03a of Jonny Kane, who clocked a best time of 1:30.936.

Starworks Motorsport led the way in LMP2, with Stephane Sarrazin wheeling the American team's HPD ARX-03b to a best time of 1:32.712. Sarrazin's time was 0.178 seconds quicker than the ADR-Delta Oreca 03 Nissan of John Martin, who put in a 1:32.890 lap time late in the 90-minute afternoon session.

Sarrazin and co-drivers Enzo Potolicchio and Ryan Dalziel can clinch the LMP2 Teams' Championship with a win in Sunday's Six Hours of Mt. Fuji.

The No. 49 Pecom Racing Oreca 03 Nissan was third quickest in the afternoon session and on the day, but stopped on track late in the session after running out of fuel.

GTE-Pro was led by Team Felbermayr-Proton, thanks to a 1:40.877 lap time by Marc Lieb in the team's No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.

The No. 97 Aston Martin Vantage V8 of Stefan Mucke wound up second quickest, leaving the two championship-winning AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italias third and fourth on the day.

Larbre Competition ended the session 1-2, with the French squad's No. 70 Corvette C6.R of Jean Philippe-Belloc topping the time sheets with a 1:42.096 lap time.

Belloc's time was less than a tenth quicker than the sister No. 50 machine, driven by Pedro Lamy, with Krohn Racing's Michele Rugolo completing the top-three in class, thanks to his 1:42.233 lap time set in the morning.

The only notable incident during the afternoon session came in the closing minutes when the No. 7 Toyota of Alex Wurz and Neel Jani's No. 12 Rebellion Racing Lola-Toyota made contact. Both cars continued without any visible significant damage.

A final 60-minute practice is on tap for 9:25 a.m. local, followed by qualifying later that afternoon.
