On a damp and cool day in northeast Spain, the latest evolution HPD LMP1 car turned its first laps, gearing up for next year's FIA World Endurance Championship and American Le Mans Series seasons.

The American manufacturer took the wraps off its HPD ARX-03c Sunday, which features wider Michelin front tires, new front-suspension geometry, steering configuration and bodywork compared to its first-generation ARX-03a, which Strakka Racing, JRM Racing and Muscle Milk Pickett Racing campaigned this year.

While the initial testing is being conducted on Strakka's chassis with Jonny Kane and Nick Leventis at the wheel, both Muscle Milk Pickett Racing driver Klaus Graf and team manager Brandon Fry are also in attendance and playing a hands-on role.

Further testing is scheduled for tomorrow, with all three drivers continuing to log miles with the new-configuration LMP1 contender.

All three current HPDs are expected to receive the upgrade to 03c specification for 2013.

Further testing, with Muscle Milk's entry, is expected to come next month at the new Circuit of The Americas. Additional HPD LMP2 teams could also join the newly crowned ALMS P1 champions at the Austin F1 circuit, which will play host to both FIA WEC and ALMS next year.
