Following in the footsteps of Nick Heidfeld, who drove for Rebellion Racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Six Hours of Spa, another ex-Formula One driver will be making his FIA World Endurance Championship debut in this weekend's Six Hours of Silverstone.

Lotus LMP2 confirmed Monday that Vitantonio Liuzzi will pilot the team's No. 32 Lola B12/80 Lotus, sharing the wheel of the Judd-powered prototype with James Rossiter and American Kevin Weeda.

The 31-year-old Italian, who made 80 starts in F1 with Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Force India and Hispania during a six-year stint, currently competes in the International Superstars Series.

“I am very happy to get the chance to drive at the 6 Hours of Silverstone," Liuzzi said. "I know the track quite well from Formula 1 races in the past. but driving here in the Lotus LMP2 car will be different, for sure."

"I already got experienced with the car during some test days earlier this season and I can’t wait for my first race in the FIA World Endurance Championship. I want to thank Lotus for this great opportunity and I hope to have a good result in Silverstone.”

The team, run by Colin and Romulus Kolles, will field a two-car effort for the second time this year, with the season-long No. 31 Lola-Lotus again being driven by Thomas Holzer, Mirco Schultis and Luca Moro.

Both of the Lotus-backed cars are among the stacked field of 15 entries in LMP2 for Sunday's race.
