Audi led the way Friday morning at Sao Paulo, in the third and final practice prior to qualifying for the fifth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

In an overcast 60-minute session, Marcel Fassler peddled his No. 1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro to a 1:22.765 lap time. It edged out the No. 2 Audi R18 ultra of Lucas Di Grassi by 0.188 seconds.

Thursday pace-setter Toyota slotted in third after a lengthy stay in the garage during the first half of the session. Nicolas Lapierre's 1:23.473 lap, though, was more than seven-tenths slower than Fassler's best.

JRM was again quickest of the LMP1 privateers, thanks to a 1:24.138 lap time by Peter Dumbreck in the team's HPD ARX-03a.

In LMP2, Signatech Nissan topped the time charts again, this time with Nelson Panciatici setting a quick lap of 1:26.815 in the No. 26 Oreca 03 Nissan.

The Frenchman was nearly four-tenths faster than the No. 44 Starworks Motorsport HPD ARX-03b of Stephane Sarrazin, who wound up second quickest.

A late improvement by John Martin put the No. 25 ADR-Delta Oreca 03 Nissan third, with the No. 32 Lotus Lola B12/80 Lotus making it three different chassis and engine manufacturers in the top-four in class.

GTE-Pro was paced by the No. 77 Team Felbermayr-Proton Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Marc Lieb, who turned a 1:33.764, while Fernando Rees led GTE-Am yet again in his No. 50 Larbre Competition Corvette C6.R.

While there were no significant incidents, a handful of cars suffered spins, including Starworks HPD, Greaves Zytek-Nissan and a slight coming together between the No. 1 Audi of Lotterer and an Oak Racing Morgan-Nissan late in the session.

Qualifying is scheduled for 2 p.m. local.
