Audi will start tomorrow's FIA WEC Six Hours of Bahrain from the pole position following a 1-2 sweep in qualifying Friday at Bahrain International Circuit.

Allan McNish reeled off a best lap of 1:45.814 that put the newly configured No. 2 Audi R18 e-tron quattro at the top of the time sheets early on.

A red flag halfway through the 20-minute session for debris, caused by the sister No. 1 Audi of Marcel Fassler, however, resulted in a shakeup in strategy for the contending prototypes.

While both Audis rejoined, only Fassler improved, while the lone Toyota TS030 Hybrid of Nicolas Lapierre elected not to go back out.

As a result, McNish's time held up, giving the Scot and co-driver Tom Kristensen the prime position heading into Saturday evening's enduro.

"Honestly, it was a scrappy lap," McNish admitted. "There's quite a few things you have to be aware of going back to the e-tron. I didn't get it totally prepared the first lap. The second lap was pretty good but not ideal.

"The third one, I would have gained in the last corner but got a bit eager, caught the curb on the outside and that was a tenth-and-a-half lost.

"Overall, I'm happy because we're on pole position. You take them when you can."

The No. 1 Audi of Fassler and co-drivers Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer completed the sweep of the front row for Audi, with the No. 7 Toyota TS030 Hybrid of Lapierre and Alex Wurz starting third on the grid, thanks to the Frenchman's 1:46.254 lap time.

Quickest of the LMP1 privateers was Neel Jani, who recorded a 1:47.638 lap time in the No. 12 Rebellion Racing Lola B12/60 Toyota.

Starworks Motorsport captured its second straight pole in LMP2, thanks to another impressive performance by Stephane Sarrazin.

The Frenchman reeled off a 1:51.791 lap time in his HPD ARX-03b. It was a considerable 0.487 seconds quicker than championship rival John Martin in his ADR-Delta Oreca 03 Nissan, who wound up second.

"Since we arrived, we felt that we have had a good balance with the car," Sarrazin said. "We did a great job yesterday and improved improved a bit. And today in qually, it was very good. It's a good potential for the race."

With regular co-driver Ryan Dalziel in Lime Rock Park for the GRAND-AM season finale, Sarrazin and co-driver Enzo Potolicchio are joined by Tom Kimber-Smith this weekend.

Olivier Pla completed the top-three in class thanks to a 1:52.368 lap time in his No. 24 OAK Racing Morgan-Nissan.
