Testing was red-flagged at 3:10pm this Sunday after the #7 Peugeot 908 Hdi-FAP driven by ex-F1 driver Marc Gene founds itself sideways and then airborne in the rapid Porsche Curves. The car held the 4th fastest time of the day prior to the impact. With the rear of the Peugeot on the grass on bounding off of the retaining wall, Gene was a passenger when the 908 went airborne while sliding sideways at unabated speed.

The trackside video posted by the ACO shows Gene striking the Armco barrier on the other side of the circuit while still in the air, ricocheting off the barrier and coming to a rest almost one hundred meters down the track. Fortunately, the car landed on its
wheels, but the chassis was completely destroyed in the incident, and Gene complained of pain in a toe and his right elbow.

Initially concerned he’d broken that toe, Peugeot Sport reported Gene's X-Rays were negative. The Spanish driver is expected to compete in the 2008 edition of the Le Mans race.

Questions remain regarding the cause of the crash, as Technical Director Bruno Famin explained that the team would begin an immediate investigation to learn the reason for Gene’s accident.

The team is also expected to file paperwork with the ACO requesting the use of a replacement chassis for the #7 car.
