French rally legend Sebastien Loeb will have to wait at least another year before seeing his team compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as the P2 squad announced Friday its withdrawal from the twice-around-the-clock endurance classic.

Sebastien Loeb Racing had lodged an Oreca 03-Nissan entry for Franck Montagny and Nicolas Marroc but has been forced to pull out due to sponsorship issues. The team has scratched plans to enter the European Le Mans Series as well.

"It was a difficult decision to make, but we’ve always said that we wanted to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the best possible conditions," siad team manager Dominique Heintz. "It was planned that a sponsor would join our group of partners but they have unfortunately pulled out.

"The first step was to make the entry request, the second was to be selected. The last step was to finalize the project, which was made impossible by this withdrawal. We sincerely regret the situation. The team was very motivated by this challenge and stays motivated for the future."

As a result, the No. 34 Race Performance Oreca 03 Judd, the first prototype entry on the reserve list, has now been confirmed for the June 22-23 enduro. Michel Frey has been the nominated driver for the Swiss squad's effort.

Sebastien Loeb Racing, co-owned by the nine-time WRC champion and Heintz, still has plans to compete in the FIA GT Series and French-based GT Tour this year.
