Despite speculation of its cancellation, the FIA World Endurance Championship put those rumors to rest Friday, confirming the Six Hours of Shanghai will go ahead as planned, but with a minor race date change.

The season-finale of the inaugural global sports car championship will now be on Sunday Oct, 28, instead of one day earlier as originally scheduled. The change was due to accommodate a Chinese celebrity support race that is planned for Saturday instead.

“Whether we race on Saturday or Sunday doesn’t really matter and we will have a great show both on and off the track, including the celebrity race which will help attract the Chinese fans to the circuit," said FIA WEC CEO Gerard Neveu.

"China is very important to the championship as it is the fastest growing economy in the world. Shanghai will provide the perfect backdrop the big party to celebrate the end of a great first season of the FIA World Endurance Championship.”

Official on-track activities will kick off at the state-of-the-art Shanghai International Circuit on Friday, Oct. 28, with qualifying set for one day later.

The announcement was made at the site of this weekend's Six Hours of Siverstone, the fourth round of the championship.
