While Audi paced Thursday morning's opening practice, Toyota topped the time charts and ended up quickest of the day, as teams prepare for Saturday's FIA WEC Six Hours of Sao Paulo.

Nicolas Lapierre laid down a 1:23.272 lap time late in Thursday's second and final 90-minute practice session. The Frenchman, piloting the solo Toyota TS030 Hybrid, wound up 0.438 seconds quicker than Lucas Di Grassi, who led the Audi brigade.

“I drove the most in the first free practice because I had to learn the track; it wasn’t easy due to the drizzle and then more heavy rain," Lapierre said. "The two sessions were good. Interlagos is a nice track, with beautiful curves and a lot of undulation."

Brazilian ace Di Grassi, making his sports car debut, only turned his first laps in the R18 ultra specification car this morning but has proven to be quick learner. He turned a best time of 1:23.710 in the car he'll share with Audi veterans Allan McNish and Tom Kristensen.

The No. 1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro of Benoit Treluyer wound up third quickest on the day, thanks to his 1:23.900 lap time set in the afternoon. Co-driver Andre Lotterer led the way in the opening session.

Quickest of the LMP1 privateers was the JRM HPD ARX-03a of Peter Dumbreck, who threw down an impressive 1:24.265 lap time, which was only 0.993 seconds off the overall pace-setting Toyota.

LMP2 was led by Franck Mailleux, who set a 1:27.815 lap time in the No. 26 Signatech Oreca 03 Nissan. Mailleux's time was just a fraction (0.003 seconds) quicker than teammate Roman Rusinov, who wound up second in the afternoon session and on Thursday.

Thursday morning class pace-setters, Starworks Motorsport, was third, thanks to Ryan Dalziel's 1:28.190 lap time. Co-driver Stephane Sarrazin did not take the wheel in the afternoon in order to get both Dalziel and Enzo Potolicchio more laps on the 2.67-mile circuit.

Aston Martin Racing ended Thursday quickest in GTE-Pro, with Darren Turner setting a 1:34.001 lap time in his No. 97 Aston Martin Vantage V8 that he'll share with Stefan Mucke.

The No. 77 Team Felbermayr-Proton Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Marc Lieb was second, followed by the championship-leading No. 51 AF Corse Ferrari F458 Italia of Giancarlo Fisichella in third.

GTE-Am saw local favorite Fernando Rees go quickest in the No. 50 Larbre Competition C6.R. The Brazilian's 1:34.841 lap time was good enough for third quickest overall between the GTE-class contenders, and was more than one-second clear of his direct competition.

Teams faced sprinkles of rain throughout the afternoon session, but conditions were never wet enough to switch to rain tires.

The only significant incident reported was a coming together with the No. 41 Greaves Motorsport Zytek Z11SN Nissan of Christian Zugel and Jean-Denis Deletraz's Gulf Racing Middle East Lola B12/80 Nissan, which resulted in bodywork damage for the Greaves entry.

The third and final practice of the day is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on Friday, followed by qualifying in the afternoon.
