The 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans marks the 79th running of the 'Grand Prix of Endurance.' Held on June 11-12 at the Circuit de la Sarthe in the town of Le Mans, the classic French race pits cars, drivers, teams and the latest automotive innovations against the clock for 24 hours of unrelenting competition.
Located just over two hours west of Paris, the 8.5-mile track demands the full attention from its drivers. With major factory entries in the top-level LMP1 prototype class, the likes of Audi, Peugeot and Aston Martin will vie for the overall victory. The slower, more cost-effective LMP2 prototypes are expected to wage a fierce battle amongst the privateer ranks, while the GT racing classes could provide the most exciting competition throughout the event.
With General Motors' Corvette brand, BMW, Ferrari, Porsche, Ford, Lotus and Aston Martin ready for a non-stop fight, fans of GTs and prototypes will have plenty to follow from flag to flag on SPEED.
SPEED will televise the 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans live, beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, June 11th, with coverage alternating between SPEED and live streaming on SPEED.com until the checkered flag waves on Sunday. SPEED.com will also offer in-depth coverage during the week leading up to the event.
