Toyota topped the time charts in the opening practice for Saturday's FIA WEC Six Hours of Bahrain.

Alex Wurz turned a best lap of 1:47.727 to go quickest in the 90-minute day-into-dusk session. The Austrian outpaced the No. 2 Audi R18 e-tron quattro of Allan McNish by a considerable 0.993 seconds.

The No. 1 Audi of Andre Lotterer was third after recovering from a suspension issue early in the session.

Quickest of the LMP1 privateers was the No. 21 Strakka Racing HPD ARX-03a of Danny Watts in fourth with a 1:49.798 lap time.

LMP2 was paced by Alex Brundle aboard the No. 35 OAK Racing Morgan-Nissan, while AF Corse's Giancarlo Fisichella led the way in GTE-Pro.

The No. 61 AF Waltrip Ferrari F458 Italia of Rui Aguas was quickest in GTE-Am but had an eventful session. Co-driver Rob Kauffman spun and beached the Prancing Horse, but with the assistance of corner workers was able to continue.

No other major incidents were reported.

The second and final practice of the day is on tap for 8 p.m. local.

RESULTS: Practice 1
