LEARY: Super 7 Sweep… Sweet!

Wind Tunnel’s “Super 7 Sweep” is a fantasy racing game with all kinds of cool prizes. The only problem is…if you WORK on “Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain,” you are not eligible to win them. Usually that doesn’t matter to me. Of the 3,000 or so players who participate, I’m usually a non-factor. I’ve been close a couple of times this year… I was fifth once and 11th on another occasion. But this past week, all the planets and stars aligned and my picks came through for me.

Of the six racing series that competed, I chose four winners, a second place and two thirds. That added up to a nice point total that put me at the top of the leader board. I get bragging rights…but nothing else. I missed out on the really cool Ferrari die cast car and an autographed Dave Despain bobblehead. Oh well, fair is fair and rules are rules. I’ll settle for bragging rights. It really does feel great to be “Number One.” For “one brief shining moment” I get a small sense of what it must be like to be Richard Petty, John Force, A.J. Foyt, Steve Kinser or Tom Kristensen.

The guys who sit in the cubicles around me had been doing a lot of “trash talking” as they stood way up the points ladder above me. “No Dough Racing” took the tortoise approach and believed that eventually trends, statistics and past performances and driver histories at particular racetracks would prevail. At least for one week they did. “No Dough Racing” still has no dough...no cool prizes...but it does feel good to be “Number One”...at least for a week.

Maybe the cubicles around me will be a little quieter this week, so I can concentrate on making my Super 7 picks. If you haven’t played yet, sign up. It’s easy, it’s free and YOU can win lots of really nice prizes like autographed Dave
Despain diecast cars and bobbleheads, books, RC cars, driving experiences and the grand prize of a Wide Open Baja 4-day adventure in a race- buggy with Dave Despain as your co-pilot.

The premise of the game is simple: You can pretend that you are a combination of Rick Hendrick, Roger Penske, Chip Ganassi, Jack Roush and Ross Brawn. All the drivers across seven international racing series work for YOU. You have the flexibility to pick seven of them each week to represent YOUR racing “Super Team.” (“Super 7 Team?”) You can change your driver lineup each week. If one of your picks disappoints you…boot him/her for the following week! You are the boss.

The Seven Series represented are:
NASCAR Sprint Cup
NASCAR Nationwide
NASCAR Camping World Trucks
American Le Mans Series
Grand-Am Daytona Prototypes
FIA Formula 1
IRL IndyCar

Each week you must pick at least one entry from each of the series that is running that week. You score points based on your drivers’ finishing position, qualifying position, lap leader points and manufacturer points. However, a driver can only score points if he/she finishes in the top sixteen. You can pick a pole sitter that is blazingly fast, leads every lap but crashes in the last corner…finishes 17th and you score ZERO Points. What a bummer. It will get you yelling at the TV set for sure. It will also have you watching the races with a renewed interest, since you will be cheering for “your” drivers. It’s especially fun to see how your team stacks up against your friends and colleagues. You can join any time. It’s free and you are eligible for great prizes from the get go. Don’t delay. Sign up today. “No Dough Racing” relishes the competition.
