B.R.A.K.E.S. will hold a charity poker tournament on Tuesday, March 23, the week of the Inaugural NHRA 4-Wide Nationals, to raise funds for its Teen Pro-Active Driving School. Members of the motorsports community will have the opportunity to support the 501(c)(3) foundation and its mission by taking their chances at Texas Hold'Em.

"I'm speaking for everyone involved with B.R.A.K.E.S. when I say how excited we are about holding this charity poker tournament," said the organization's founder, Doug Herbert. "I know there are a lot of guys - and girls - in the racing community here that enjoy playing poker. We think this is a fun way for them to win some great prizes while supporting a great cause."

The tournament, held at Ray Evernham Enterprises in Mooresville, N.C., begins at 6:30pm, with cards in the air at 7:00pm. A ticket to play in the tournament is $250, which includes the buy-in, dinner and three drink tickets. The event will also include a raffle and entertainment. Players will receive an additional $250 in chips for bringing a non-playing guest for a $40 donation. Seats are limited so players are encouraged to register in advance by calling (704) 732-8950.

Thanks to generous contributions from supporters, B.R.A.K.E.S. is able to conduct its Teen Pro-Active Driving School free of charge for every family that attends. The school puts teens behind the wheel to teach them how to handle a vehicle in adverse driving conditions. With schools scheduled throughout 2010, the organization will provide free, hands-on training to over 1,200 teens this year.

"Up to this point we had put hundreds of teens through schools in North and South Carolina," added Herbert. "This year, thanks to the NHRA, we're holding driving schools in California, which is an exciting step for us to reach teens on the west coast. We have so many parents in every part of the country asking us to bring the driving school to their state. Our hope is that, through fundraisers like this, we will be able to take the school to even more areas of the country next year!"
