Englishtown, NJ

Friday night's top qualifiers in both Top Fuel and Funny Car held on to their positions on Saturday as the United Association SuperNationals in Englishtown, N.J. were limited to three qualifying rounds by heavy rain.

Tony Schumacher's rebuilt U.S. Army Top Fuel team added another notch to its belt by holding on to the top spot with a best pass of 3.818 seconds at 314.46 mph.

"We’re certainly happy to have our first No. 1 of the year, especially considering we have a first-round bye," said Schumacher. "We can always use the free 20 points whenever we can get them."

Larry Dixon's Al-Anabi Racing dragster took the second spot heading into Sunday’s eliminations while points leader Antron Brown took the fifth spot in the Matco Tools rail. Only Shawn Langdon's Lucas Oil dragster was able to improve its position in Saturday's round, he moved from eighth to sixth on the ladder.

Ashley Force Hood once again led a strong contingent of John Force Racing Ford Mustangs, by claiming the No. 1 qualifier spot with a best pass of 4.071 at 303.37 mph and moving into a tie with last week's winner, Tony Pedregon, for second place in the points.

"You are not always No. 1 because you had three great runs," Force Hood said. "Sometimes you are No. 1 because you had one stellar run. I think our confidence comes from having three good runs. One of them was in the night session and we got the No. 1 spot, but as a whole we have made it down the track every run.

"We will try and do that every time down the track tomorrow. I’ve run down both lanes. I don’t have any issues with either lane so I am very confident about tomorrow."

Teammate Mike Neff qualified second with Pedregon third and Robert Hight fourth.

Ron Krisher surprised many in Pro Stock by leap-frogging two spots into the No. 1 position with Saturday's lone run.

"We’ve got the same motor we’ve had in all year; we’ve just been having trouble with the car and the clutch," said Krisher. "But we learned a lot of things this weekend. We knew what we were looking at, and we knew what we had to do to fix it, and when we went out this morning, it was fixed. We were picking it up on every run, but Allen (Johnson) snuck past us last night."

Krisher's Valvoline Chevy Colbat has a best pass of 6.583 at 209.30 mph, which beat the red-hot Mike Edwards in the Young Life Pontiac GXP, who ran a 6.598 at 208.97 mph. Johnson slipped to sixth after not being able to improve on his 6.607 at 208.94 mph pass from Friday night.

In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Hector Arana made a leap of his own to claim the top of the ladder.

"This is the first time in a long time that I’ve been No. 1 and it feels pretty good," said Arana. "I’ve been close a couple of times but someone, usually Matt Smith, comes along and knocks me down at the last minute. I did my rain dance so nobody got that chance today. Seriously, I think we were going to be okay even if we had run because that 6.96 was pretty good."

Arana's Lucas Oil Buell ran a class best 6.965 at 189.87 mph. No. 2 qualifier Craig Treble ran the only other sub-7
second pass with a 6.985 at 197.96 mph.
