NHRA: Global Safety Labs Advanced Fire Suppression Technology To Be Demonstrated at Topeka

Throughout the years, if you would ask a race car driver what they feared most, ‘fire’ was inevitability the answer most often given. The thought of being trapped in a burning vehicle would send a cold chill down the back of any person.

The progression towards new fire fighting technologies within motor sport has been slow however, as existing products have seemingly provided sufficient solutions for many years. That may be changing however, as Tulsa, Oklahoma company Global Safety Labs has come up with two products that may transform the way professional racing looks at fire protection.

GSL’s products; the Arctic Fire-Freeze™ advanced fire suppressant agent and Spentex™ advanced fireproof clothing, might be the sport’s next generation of fire protection.

To validate these applications within racing, the company will demonstrate both during the upcoming NHRA National Event at Heartland Park Topeka on Saturday, May 30, close to the NHRA tech trailer. GSL officials feel the extreme conditions that exist within both Nitro categories, coupled with the urgency of response; make professional drag racing the perfect place to initiate the program.

“Arctic Fire-Freeze™ and Spentex™ by themselves would exceed the current fire protection available
on current safety crew vehicles,” GSL’s Andy Allen said. “Together, it introduces a magnitude in advancement over the current protection providing the driver and safety crews unparalleled fire safety.”

The Arctic Fire-Freeze™ might be the most advanced and environmentally friendly fire suppressant in the industry. Used in everyday fire-safety applications throughout the world, this retardant extinguishes higher temperature fires quicker than other products, allowing first-responders to attend to a driver only seconds after contact – providing an extra amount of time that might be the crucial in determining the difference between life and death in a severe incident. The easy-to-clean suppressant is compatible with current dispersal systems and provides a thermal barrier from heat, while still being biodegradable and non-toxic.

Spentex™ fireproof clothing also provides a similar level of protection, while still being cool, comfortable, washable and the lightest within the market today. Not only is it a step up from what currently exists, but it also may be the future of fire suit safety.
