Doug Herbert and Ray Evernham have announced the launch of www.lsrproject.com, the website dedicated to the Herbert-Evernham Land Speed Record Project. The site is designed to give fans information about the project as well as updates on the progress of the car itself.

“There has been a lot of interest in the car we’re building, so we wanted to have a site where people can go to check it out,” said Herbert, who began work on the car in 2008 as a project with his father, Chet Herbert, who passed away in April 2009. “My dad was involved with land speed cars for many years and I’ve got a lot of respect for the sport of land racing and the guys that do it. He was really excited about the car. Even though he won’t be there with us to see it, I still can’t wait to get out to Bonneville and run this car. It was a project I was doing with my dad, now it’s something I’m doing for him.”

A photo gallery section of the site allows fans to see the team’s progress with the build of the car. With daily developments being made, fans can stay updated on the look and design of the car as it is being built. Website
users will be able to follow the team through each step of the project including testing and the land speed record attempt, held at the Bonneville Salt Flats during Speed Week 2009. The site also features a list of people involved with the project, including former NASCAR Crew Chief and team owner and partner in the Land Speed Record Project, Ray Evernham.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the cars they run at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Those cars are a tremendous combination of engineering, aerodynamics and pure horsepower,” said Evernham. “It’s an honor to work with Doug Herbert on this project, and we look forward to being able to break the record at Speed Week 2009.”

Evernham’s Ray Evernham Enterprises is contributing engineering and design resources and fabrication support, as well as horsepower delivered via two Dodge Viper V10 engines provided by Dodge. Evernham also is busy broadcasting races for ESPN, managing East Lincoln Speedway, opening a new museum and entertainment facility in Mooresville, NC, helping develop young drivers and designing race cars for several key series and events.
