Kevin Swindell and Kyle Larson are young, fast winners who have shined in open wheel and, in another time, would be bound for stardom in IndyCars.

But they’re both headed for NASCAR because that’s where there’s opportunity.

Swindell, who captured an ARCA stock car race in 2012 in a limited schedule, has signed on to join a new Nationwide team owned by Fred Biagi and Bill Denbeste. It should be announced this week.

“I’m not sure how many races we’ll do, but it’s a start and I’m thankful for this opportunity,” said the 22-year-old second generation star. “These guys have been in racing before and they’re starting a new team so we’ll try and grow together.

“US Fleet Tracking has been helping dad and I here at the Chili Bowl and it would be great if they come along with us to NASCAR.”

Larson, a 21-year-old phenom who triumphed in USAC midgets, USAC sprints, World of Outlaws, K & N stock cars and almost in NASCAR trucks during his 20-win campaign in 2012, has impressed everyone during the past two years.

“That kid is a lot better than (Jeff) Gordon or myself were at his age (21) and you’re going to be hearing about him for a long time,” said Tony Stewart. “He’s a special talent.”

Larson said he was going back to Charlotte on Sunday to find out what Ganassi has planned for him this season but it’s believed he’ll be driving a Target car full-time in Nationwide with a few Cup races thrown in at the end of the year.
