With the 2008 World of Outlaws Late Model season is entering the final stretch and Darrell Lanigan holding on to the top spot in the points race by 128 markers over 2007 champ Steve Francis, these final six races are sure to be ones to watch. With six wins already in the bag this year, Francis and crew have their eyes on breaking the series record for season wins with 10.

As you’ve probably seen, getting to know the other drivers on the series has been a goal for this blog... so without further ado, here are the 2008 World of Outlaws Late Model Series class superlatives as voted on by… well, THEMSELVES!!! That’s right – this year’s field was recently polled and here are their results:

Class Clown:
Shane Clanton
“He can come up with anything at anytime. You better watch out!”
“He’s just goofy. Maybe it’s the accent.”
“A happy-go-lucky kind of a guy.”

Toughest to Pass:
Chub Frank
“He’s not giving up without a fight.”

Most Likely to Succeed in the Series and Beyond: Josh Richards
“His ability and his age are on his side.”
“The rest of us are stuck here; we’re getting to old!”
“He’s the right age and has talent and money behind him.”

Most Athletic: Clint Smith
“He’s always starting up a football or volleyball game.”
“He cheats – he’ll score 10 points and say he scored 20!”
“That’s a tough one. We’re all so old.”
“Shannon Babb looks athletic, but I’ve never actually seen him do anything.”
“Josh should be he’s young, but he can’t walk and chew gum at that same time!”

Most Likely to be Remembered:
Steve Francis

Most Likely to Say “WOW!!” on the Track:
Shane Clanton
“He’s always wide open.”
“He ran me over last night! That made me say ‘wow!’”
“Goes up on the cushion and eats it.”
“Two words – slide job.”

Teachers Pet: Rick Eckert

Best Cook: Clint Smith
“He’s
always cooking up something.”
“No idea what’s in it, but he makes the best sausage! Amazing.”
“Low country boil is his specialty.”
“I’m the best cook!!”

Biggest Flirt: Tim Fuller
“Hope that doesn’t get him in trouble!!”

Most Underrated: Darrell Lanigan
“He’s not flashy but he’s consistent.”
