Hello open-wheel types and thanks for all your questions. I intend to answer your questions every week during the season so just email them to openwheelmailbag@gmail.com. Don't feel left out if I didn't directly respond. I appreciate your interest and passion. -Robin Miller

Q: When the IRL split the immediate result was a meteoric rise of NASCAR nation which now dominates the press for any kind of motorsport. NASCAR is currently trending down a little from what I gather so: Do you think Indy can ever be as big as NASCAR? Are they smart enough to market aggressively? Will any of the crossover drivers come back to compete now that there has been unification?

Chet Plegge

RM: If Danica, Marco, Graham, Hunter-Reay and little Foyt can be winners and contenders, open wheel can possibly win back a lot of fans and the mainstream media. Terry Angstadt seems to be a bright fellow so let's give him a little time and see what he can muster up in terms of marketing. I think you'll see Sam Hornish back in an Indy car before he turns 30. I'd also love to see A.J.
Allmendinger return.

Q: What is your take on Graham Rahal's anger directed towards his crew after realizing they didn't have a new set of tires for another qualifying run? I still can't believe that he is only 19 years old, and it sure was fun to see his passion and competitiveness. But, his team has done a great job getting cars ready and fixing ones he wrecked. Was it OK to call them out for not having extra tires?
Ryan Sweeny

RM: I think he was understandably frustrated after putting in two good efforts and still not having a place. I don't think the team was mad at him, I think they were upset about maybe not having the right gearing for his second run. I think Graham is so mature and so collected for his age, we forget he's only 19.

Q: Robin....thank you for your passion and support of open-wheel racing. My question is this: Back in the 1970s. ABC Sports used to televise the Phoenix, Trenton and Ontario USAC races (before CART). It was great to watch great racers like Foyt, Rutherford, Johncock, both Unsers, McCluskey, etc. Are any of these videos available anywhere?
