TruSpeed Motorsports will return to Pirelli World Challenge competition this weekend with a potent recipe for success as the California-based team has tabbed sports car ace Ryan Dalziel to drive the No. 46 Privacy Star/Entrust Porsche entry in this weekend’s season opening double-header event on the Streets of St. Petersburg, Florida.

TruSpeed Motorsports has an enviable record of success in the category, including taking the 2011 World Challenge Championship. The team will once again look to be a competitive force in the 2013 championship, and has secured Dalziel as part of an all out effort for a competitive campaign with the Privacy Star/Entrust-backed Porsche.

The program came together in rapid fashion, with the team only finalizing plans two weeks ahead of the season-opener. But the crew has responded in typical TruSpeed Motorsports fashion, coming to grips quickly with a car that they hadn’t even seen before taking delivery just before setting off for a productive test earlier this week.

The St. Pete weekend marks a bit of a reunion as TruSpeed Motorsports Team Manager Tyler Tadevic and Dalziel have a lot of experience working together, having teamed in American Le Mans Series and GRAND-AM competition when Dalziel drove for Pacific Coast Motorsports.

“We are so stoked that Ryan was available to race for us, and hopefully we can get things off to a good start in St. Pete,” offered Tadevic. “World Challenge is incredibly competitive and we feel like we’ve put everything we can into this program to be successful. Kudos to the crew for how the whole team has put in that extra effort to put this program together on such short notice. This is also a big weekend for our team partner Privacy Star and we are looking forward to activating the partnership, and having a lot of guests on hand this weekend from Syniverse as well as Bridgehampton Investments.”

“It’s cool to get reunited with Tyler and a couple of other guys there that were from the Pacific Coast days,” said Dalziel. “I’m really looking forward to it for a couple of different reasons. I’ve always wanted to race at St. Petersburg so I’m kind of killing two birds with one stone. I’m really grateful to TruSpeed and Rob and Charles Morgan for giving me the opportunity. Hopefully we can get the Porsche on top.”

TruSpeed is fresh off the opening round of the GT3 Cup Challenge at Sebring International Raceway in which the group scored a podium finish of third as well as three top-five finishes with drivers Brett Sandberg, Miles Maroney, and Phil Fogg Jr.

The St. Pete race weekend also marks the second event in as many events for the now Florida-based Dalziel, who saw his SRT Motorsports Viper show well in the 12 Hours of Sebring as the factory program continues to make progress. With a weekend format that features two intense sprint races, Dalziel is looking forward to the change of pace...and to not sharing a car.

“It’s nice to go back to sprint races where it’s one driver and one car and you can kind of concentrate just on being selfish,” the affable Scotsman said with a laugh. “TruSpeed didn’t have the season they wanted last year coming off their championship year in 2011. But they’re pretty much putting everything into it at this point and they’re going out there to see what the package is and I think we’re all expecting to do well. We’re not really going to know until we get there how good we’re going to be but I’m expecting good things.”

The event marks the fourth consecutive year that the World Challenge series opens its race season as part of the IndyCar Series event at St. Pete. Round 1 is scheduled for Saturday, March 23 with Round 2 slated for Sunday, March 24.
