Furniture Row Racing officials say that the team has bought out its contract with NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Joe Nemechek. Nemechek drove the No. 78 entry this season for the team, which had previously announced plans to run a part-time schedule in 2009. Click Here

There is no doubt that we are all feeling the effects of a down economy and we knew that there would be layoffs and cutbacks but to hear numbers from 700 to 800 people is staggering. Here are some of the unofficial numbers that have been reported so far online:
DEI -- 116 Employees
Ganassi -- 71
Petty -- 23
Wood Brothers -- 22
Stewart-Haas -- 16
Hendrick -- 12
Hall of Fame -- waiting on sponsor
Yates -- Todd Parrott
Bill Davis -- has already made cuts to run streamline

As the American auto industry struggles and looks to Congress for a financial support, some leading Chevrolet team owners and drivers in NASCAR are voicing their support for Detroit's Big Three automakers. Team owner Rick Hendrick of Hendrick Motorsports, whose organization fields four Chevrolets in the Sprint Cup Series, stressed that if something isn't done to rescue the financially strapped domestic automobile industry there will be a ripple effect throughout the nation. Team owner Rick Hendrick says he is “disappointed” that driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. didn't finish in the top 10 in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings in his first season with Hendrick Motorsports.
