KYLE BUSCH GOING FOR 80TH NASCAR WIN AND FIFTH CONSECUTIVE VICTORY IN FRIDAY’S NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES RACE LIVE ON SPEED

Dunlap: “Remember these moments when Kyle is kicking everybody’s ass because someday you’ll look back on it and say, ‘I watched history in the making.’”

“I was at dinner with Benny (Parsons) and was complaining about (Jeff) Gordon’s (1998) streak and Benny pulled me aside and said, ‘Savor this moment and someday you’ll look back on it and maybe think it was the greatest thing you ever saw because no one else will ever be that good.’”

CAN KYLE MAKE IT 80 WINS?:
With four consecutive NASCAR wins under his belt, Kyle Busch looks for his 80th NASCAR victory and fifth consecutive win in Friday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Kentucky Speedway. SPEED’s live coverage from Kentucky begins at 7:30 p.m. ET with Krista Voda hosting the popular pre-race show, NCWTS Setup. Rick Allen, Phil Parsons and Michael Waltrip will call the race with Ray Dunlap and Adam Alexander reporting from pit road. Same-day coverage of qualifying begins at 6 p.m. ET and again will consist of a multi-truck qualifying format.

Not originally scheduled to pilot his No. 18 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota in Friday’s Truck race, Busch announced his change of plans in Victory Lane at Chicagoland last weekend after winning in his fourth straight NASCAR race.

“Remember these moments when Kyle is kicking everybody’s ass because someday you’ll look back on it and say, ‘I watched history in the making,’” SPEED reporter Ray Dunlap said. “I learned that from Benny Parsons in 1998, the year that Jeff Gordon was winning all the Cup races and everyone was bemoaning his domination. I was at dinner with Benny and was complaining about Gordon’s streak and Benny pulled me aside and said, ‘Ray, don’t you understand the objective of this whole thing is to win every race? Jeff’s going to be disappointed that there are 33 races and he only won 13. Savor this moment and someday you’ll look back on it and maybe think it was the greatest thing you ever saw because no one else will ever be that good.’”

NCWTS Setup takes a look at Busch’s recent string of victories, in addition to a look-back at last week’s Chicagoland race; the 2005 race in which Boris Said joined the broadcast team in the booth, stepped out to compete and then returned to the booth at the race’s conclusion; a tour of the Louisville Slugger plant; and a feature on the nine-race summer stretch that began at Iowa Speedway and gave Todd Bodine his commanding points lead.

NASCAR RACE HUB: The Hub (7 p.m. ET Monday-Thursday) and host Steve Byrnes welcome Greg Biffle, crew chief Kevin “Bono” Manion and SPEED’s Ray Dunlap to the studio Wednesday. Tonight’s program also includes a sit-down interview with Richard Childress at Childress Vineyards for his take on his organization’s season.

On RCR’s turnaround this year:

“Our changes started last year … By the last 10 races, we were getting our cars back competitive,” Childress said. “And that’s how we started out this year, [with] the results of the work that started in August and September.

On winning the championship vs. having all three cars in the Chase:

“People say, ‘Man, you’re having a good year.’ You’re gauged at the end of the year. One guy … one race team, one organization is going to have a great year. We wanna have that great year again.”
