Jerry Coons Jr. out-dueled Levi Jones, Shane Cottle and Bryan Clauson to make it back-to-back wins in USAC sprint week on Friday night at Bloomington Speedway.

After leading flag-to-flag Thursday evening at Boswell, Ind., Coons worked his way from the fifth starting spot and finally claimed the lead from Cottle on Lap 24. He then held off Jones to the checkered flag and took the 30-lap feature by a car length.

But the star of the show was 41-year-old Dave Darland.

Qualifying 33rd, Darland had to win the consolation race just to
make it into the heat races and then transfered into the main event -- where he started 21st. The three-time Indiana Sprint Week champ charged all the way to third place and took over the point lead going into Saturday night's finale at Haubstadt, Ind.

Darland leads Coons by six points, with Jones nine behind and Cottle 15.

Cottle and Clauson traded the lead three times in the first 23 laps before Coons crashed their party. Cottle finally settled for fourth place while Clauson slid off the banking and wound up 21st.
