V8: Holden’s VE Series Commodore Notches 100 Race Wins
Holden’s VE Series Commodore has re-written Australian motor racing’s history books by winning its 100th ATCC/V8 Supercars Championship race.

Holden’s VE Series Commodore has re-written Australian motor racing’s history books by winning its 100th Australian Touring Car Championship/V8 Supercars Championship race.
TeamVodafone Holden driver Jamie Whincup claimed the milestone victory in Race 26 of the 2012 season, while completing a clean sweep of the three-race event at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
Whincup’s triumph was also the 27th in his TeamVodafone VE Commodore Series II chassis, which is now the most successful individual car in ATCC/V8SC history.
The win was also Holden’s 16th in the 30-race 2012 series, securing it the V8 Supercar Manufacturers Championship with four races still to run.
VE Series Commodore is the first model in ATCC/V8SC history to record 100 championship race wins, with the VT Commodore second on the all-time most wins list at 63.
The VE Series was introduced to racing in the 2007 V8SC season, the Holden Racing Team’s Todd Kelly claiming a debut victory in Race 1 of Adelaide’s Clipsal 500.
In its first season, it won 25 races, with victory number 50 coming courtesy of HRT’s Garth Tander dominating the Clipsal 500 in 2010.
TeamVodafone’s Craig Lowndes secured win number 75 at Queensland Raceway last year.
With 35 victories, Tander is VE Series Commodore’s most winning driver, Whincup has 30 wins and Lowndes 13.
Holden Motorsport Manager Simon McNamara has praised Holden’s V8 Supercar teams for delivering such successful results for the VE Commodore.
“At Holden, we are extremely proud of the VE Series Commodore’s on-track success, with 100 championship race wins and four straight Bathurst 1000 victories its achievements are unsurpassed in Australian touring car history,” McNamara said.
“These results would not have been possible without the efforts of key personnel such as (former Holden Motorsport Manager) John Stevenson and Holden Motorsport Technical Manager Peter Harker, along with the meticulous preparation and attention to detail of Holden’s teams and outstanding on-track performances of our drivers.”
