The Dunlop 24 Hours of Dubai has one of the most unique Balance of Performance procedures seen in the motorsports world, where cars are assigned a target time that they are not allowed to lap faster.

If they do, penalties in the form of ballast, fuel capacity changes and ride height adjustments are issued following qualifying. With penalties of increasing severity being issued for violations, it adds an an extra layer of strategy to the race.

SPEED.com asked United Autosports driver Mark Patterson to give an overview on the procedure and how it will impact strategy for this weekend's race.
